In the second trimester, you body has now fully adjusted itself to carry the pregnancy. This trimester when compared to the first trimester is fairly easy for majority of the pregnant women. The baby grows more rapidly and in most cases there are fewer possibilities of the growing fetus being in danger.

It becomes quite evident  you are pregnant, as your belly increases in size. Keep reading to see how the baby and your body changes at each stage during the next three months.


  • Pregnancy Week 13 – 16

You will have few instances or no morning sickness at all, so you will definitely be feeling much better. As the baby continues to grow, your uterus will weigh about 8 ounces as you approach week 16.

As this stage in your pregnancy week by week in Kenya, you will frequently pass urine because the growing fetus starts to press on your bladder and can not hold as much fluid forcing you to constantly empty it. You may feel constipated due to the increased size of the uterus.

Your lower back will also start to get stretched resulting to some discomfort due to increase weight as the baby grows.

By week 16 of your pregnancy, the baby will have grown to up to 4.5 inches. The skeleton, bones, muscles and the skin will have started to develop, as the baby takes to take the shape of a baby. It’s eyes form and the other organs becoming more defined.

The baby starts to make sucking motions and starts to respond to external stimuli.

  • Week 17th – 20th of your pregnancy

You are  now at the fifth month, your weight has increased considerably due to the enlarged uterus.You begin to take deeper and longer breaths as a result your heart rate increases.

Your baby has reached the half way mark of its development, its size is about 6 inches. The baby’s nails have started on it’s beautifully formed fingers and toes. It is covered with a thin waxy layer know as varnix under which the baby has fine hair.

As you monitor your pregnancy week by week in Kenya, you become aware that the baby can now hear sounds like music, bangs, your heartbeat and even your voice. If a noise is too loud  or harsh the baby can actually cover his ears with his hands. The baby will move or kick when excited or if annoyed.

Week 24 of your pregnancy week by week in Kenya, your belly will have increased further with your pregnancy now more pronounced. The are more back muscle pains and cramps due to the increase size of the belly, as the baby grows even more.

The baby has grown up to 8 inches long and has started producing red and white blood cells. his means he can  fight diseases and infections. Teeth buds also start to form at this stage in the pregnancy.

You can start singing lullabies to the baby and reading good literature, such as baby and bible stories. Since the baby can heart your heartbeat and your voice, it is advisable to avoiding getting angry or overly excited, it will affect the baby’s development.

  • Week 25 – 28 of your pregnancy

At this stage your belly is growing quite rapidly, which means you are adding weight just as fast. You back muscles are stretched out and your legs too may start to swell especially around the ankles. Sleeping becomes a task also as you can not turn as often and your previous sleeping position may no longer be comfortable.

You may also notice stretch marks which develop on your belly as the skin the stretches to accommodate the growing belly. The baby on the other hand has also developed just as much, you can now hear his heart beat using a stethoscope.

At this stage of the pregnancy calendar of the pregnancy week by week in Kenya, the baby has developed rapid eye movement and his lungs are fully developed. He even has developed a sleeping and waking up pattern.
